Rise of the Planet of the Apes is one of those movies that will be looked back upon as one of the greatest blockbuster films of all time. It’s the second best origin story of all time, beating out only Spider-Man (2002).
This movie is the origin story to a new era of Planet of the Apes and it is what the American Godzilla movies should have been. This tells such a fascinating story and the effects are the greatest I’ve ever seen.
While watching this I realized this isn’t just about animals getting smart or primates taking over the world. This is liberation story. A group was demeaned and wasn’t given proper rights. It reminded me a lot of a group of prisoners rise against the awful wardens and taking back their rights. When you think about it, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is just a really good prison movie.
Caesar is the most compelling character in film that I have seen in a while. He is so complex and really emotional which is crazy when you realize he is an ape. Andy Serkis should have been nominated for an award for his performance here. John Lithgow and James Franco are also wonderful and played the roles perfectly.
All things considered this is the best film erich has given to me for a swap and I’m excited for the second and I will be seeing the third one for sure
Rise of the Planet of the Apes: 9.2/10
Erich’s next movie: Joshy
I’m going away on vacation and won’t have time to… well… umm… upload a movie for him to watch. Just last night we were talking about how great Hulu’s indie selection is and this is one I saw in theaters last year and really loved it. The cast is fantastic and it has the most shocking scene opener for a comedy independent film.
