Ghost in the Shell (1995)

When Erich gave me this movie, I was perplexed.  I have never watched any sort of Anime, not even Pokemon as a child.  I don’t even like American animation much anymore.  With this I was a tad hesitant, but excited nonetheless to watch a movie in a form I am unfamiliar with.

Me writing this review
Ghost in the Shell is heralded as the best anime movie of all time as it depicts a prominent strong female lead and strong animation cels.  I was unimpressed.  The overdub of english was a tough sell to me and made me feel like my computer was lagging.  The story, while interesting was cheesy.  It followed a cyborg female cop-out to find who is hacking into the cyborgs to turn regular cyborgs into assassins.  The premise is great, but the execution left me wanting more.  I wanted something more real and action packed, but this felt like a crappy saturday afternoon comic book movie or something on Toonami.  Everything about this was mediocre.  Nothing was great, but nothing was awful.  I know it is sacrilege, but I feel like if/when I watch the ScarJo remake, I might like it more.

 Ghost in the Shell: 6.9/10

Erich’s Next Movie:   End of Tour

This movie is a sleeper hit of last year and is super emotional and is everything you want in a movie.  Tells a great story, toys with your emotions and showcases great performances
