This Sunday is the Academy Awards and as Kyle and I anxiously await to see which films we’ve seen this year take home the gold, I will give you guys my predictions for what I think and want to come away with a win this year! Take into account that I will probably get every category wrong but without further ado…. lets get to it!
Hell or High Water
La La Land
Manchester by the Sea
I’ve seen 6 of the 9 nominees for best picture this year and my God, they’re all really fantastic in their own special way! There’s a piece in me for each film winning best picture but ultimately I know the two it’s between, Moonlight and La La Land. Now personally I have no problem with either film winning as I believe they’re both perfect in their own special way. I’m going to go with my gut though and say that the film that takes home the oscar for best picture is….
Each visionary behind the camera nominated for this category deserves to be there. I have not seen Manchester by the Sea but I have heard that Lonergan beautifully directed such a real film that I can’t think of anyone else who would take his spot. But I ultimately believe that whichever film the best picture race is between wins, the opposite’s director will win this category.
Winner: Damien Chazelle
This race is pretty tricky as I feel everyone thinks Casey Affleck is in the bag which of course he very well may be…. but something tells me this category will be a shock and the winner will be….
Winner: Denzel Washington
This is another race that seemingly everyone can pinpoint the winner but this will be another surprise category as the winner for this will dance her way to the stage for a statue….
Winner: Emma Stone
Best Supporting Actor:
This is as easy a category to pinpoint as the past two years have been although last year was definitely a huge upset so anything can happen. Also on a side note, poor Michael Shannon is always nominated in a year where he’s always outshined. You’ll win one day good sir!
Winner: Mahershala Ali
Best Supporting Actress:
Everything I wrote above for best supporting actor can be said for this category. This year belongs to one special performance by a fantastic actress and there is no way that it goes any other way but to….
Winner: Viola Davis
These are my predictions on what I think is going to take home the gold this Sunday at the Oscars. Such a great and tight race this year that even if I’m dead wrong save for best supporting actor, I’ll be extremely satisfied because there are so many great and worthy films this year which is very rare to say. May the best film win!
My review for Love and Mercy will be up shortly along with my next choice for Kyle which I am very excited to get out there.
